Krueger Aiming For 300 Feet Saturday

Posted by: usawsOn: 08/06/2015 11:23:08In: Water Skiing
Freddy KruegerU.S. water ski athlete Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) will attempt to ski fly 300 feet on live network television on Saturday as part of the inaugural MasterCraft Throwdown pro wakeboarding event at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids, Mich. According to a press release from MasterCraft, officials from the Guinness Book of World Records will be on hand to witness Krueger's attempt to soar the length of a football field in hopes of surpassing the current world ski flying record of 299 feet that was set by Canada's Jaret Llewellyn in May 2000 in Orlando, Fla. The MasterCraft Throwdown will air live for 90 minutes on ABC beginning at 2:30 p.m. (EDT). The record attempt is being sanctioned by USA Water Ski.
Ski flying is a modified form of traditional jumping that produces greater distances than traditional jumping. The last official IWWF/USA Water Ski-sanctioned ski flying event was held in 2005. The 45 mph boat speed necessary for ski flying is 10 mph above that of traditional jumping. Instead of a 75-foot rope, ski flyers can use a rope as long as 105 feet attached to a pylon with an 18-inch extension. The most significant change regards the height and length of the ramp. The traditional jumping ramp is lowered from 6 feet to 5 feet, 10 inches and extended nearly 2-1/2 feet to 24 feet, 6 inches.

MasterCraft, a Premier Sponsor of USA Water Ski, is one of the largest producers of inboard performance towboats in the world and an industry leader in new product innovation, styling, comfort, performance and quality. Handmade in Vonore, Tenn., MasterCraft boats continue the company's legacy of excellence within all competitive and recreational niches of water sports. I wish they wouldn't have said anything about the 312. It took away from the 304. Either way what an amazing feat.

  • So, your sayin' there's a chance!
Thank you Travis for the heads up link to the program! The whole program was awesome to watch! The Jumps (Krueger's)were obviously INSANE!

Did anyone get to see that specially designed engine in his tow boat?!?! 500+ hp, sounded about like a drag Boat!!! Looked absolutely incredible.

Did anyone catch the onsite Jumbo-tron for the crowd! How about the ESPN Sport Science segment on Freddy's attempt?

This show is a great example of why Wake boarding is and continues stay Mainstream. -They continue to make it a very Commercially appealing product! (ABC on a Saturday! LIVE! WOW!)
